I’m a big believer in proper etiquette. Through the good work of my mama and Emily Post, I would say I feel pretty well-versed in the subject. One of my absolute favorite ways to show kind and thoughtful etiquette? Hostess gifts.
There is something so warm and welcoming that comes with the invitation of being in someone’s home for a meal or gathering. Those attending feel comforted, cared for, and entertained – as they should! However, hosting an event is a lot of work! And though any proper hostess would never say that to her guests, it’s important for her efforts to be recognized. And a great way to acknowledge her and her efforts is to arrive with a little something to say thank you.
It doesn’t have to be much! Just enough to make her smile and feel loved in return. Here are some photos for inspiration and to show you my favorite ways to show a little gratitude:
A sweet little candle: If you know the hostess has a favorite scent, I’m sure she’d love an addition to her collection! Otherwise, I try to go very mild with scents. Candles can be like perfume – not everyone likes the same scent! But if you opt for something very simple or something in a cute jar that can be reusable, she’ll be able to get use out of it.
Darling Matches: I have an obsession with matchboxes. Especially as a gift! Fun fact: our wedding favor was a box of matches with our couple monogram and wedding date on them. I just love the notion of gifting something practical yet fun and something that symbolizes a night celebrated together. A little match box as a gift to your hostess will be sure to remind her of the fun occasion you both shared.
Cocktail Napkins: My cocktail napkin collection is ever-growing. I stock up on them whenever I see a cute set and keep them in a box in our storage closet titled ‘hostess gifts’ so that I can grab them in a pinch. Not only are they cute, but they’re so functional as well!
Fresh florals: Whether they’re hand picked from your garden or selected at the store on the way, every lady loves to receive flowers. A guaranteed way to make any hostess with the mostest smile! And if you want to go the extra mile, a simple mason jar or inexpensive vase for her to keep with a ribbon tied around it is a lovely touch.
Speaking of ribbon… I always try to have fun options on hand. If none of these gifts listed above work out in the moment, a great bottle of wine with a ribbon will always suffice!
So cheers to the weekend! May any gatherings you attend be delightful and may those having you feel loved and appreciated!
