Since our move to Menlo Park, we’ve certainly enjoyed lots of things about the area. But my favorite thing about living on the Peninsula of the SF Bay Area? Being so close to the beach!
Because we’re only about 30-40 minutes away from some of the most beautiful beaches of the California Coast, Sam and I made a pact that we would take advantage of as many beach trip opportunities as we could while we live here.
The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay has been on our ‘to explore’ list… knowing how gorgeous the setting is. We had attempted to visit in the past, but we hadn’t had much luck finding parking later in the day. But with the weather being what it’s been lately (in the mid-high 70’s!), we decided we’d go early yesterday morning to snag parking and enjoy the sunshine! And we did just that!
We arrived at the Ritz’s main gate just before 10 am and there was still free parking available. The resort designates a section of free ‘coastal access’ spaces within their garage which is ideal for use of the main beach below the resort. You don’t have to be a guest of the hotel to use it, but there are only so many designated spaces! Otherwise, you’re going to pay to park for the day in the garage which is steep, especially when you’re not staying at the resort! From the garage, you can easily walk down to a set of steep stairs in between the resort and a section of the golf course. This leads you right down onto the beach!
We had such a lovely morning as a family! Dallas is water-obsessed (a true retriever!) and I swear he knew we were close to the beach the second we parked the car! He had an absolute blast playing in the sand, dipping his toes in the surf (but not fully swimming – those waves are dangerous!), and running and chasing tennis balls with Daddy!
The beach is one of my happy places, so my heart was overjoyed to soak up that warm sun, watch the boys play, and snap photos of all of God’s beautiful creation all around me!
Sam and I are already talking about planning our next trip back! We’d love to go for a date – maybe grab drinks at one of the hotel’s bars and/or restaurants as we sit back in one of their signature adirondack chairs overlooking the water? Dreamy. We’ve also heard their brunch is unbelievable… so perhaps someday we’ll splurge and go!
This Ritz-Carlton is certainly spectacular… so if you have a special date to celebrate, it would be the most lovely of places to stay! And if you’re just visiting for the day like us, I love that they offer access to do so!
So if you’re in town…it’s truly a heavenly little spot along the Northern California Coast! And let me know if you’re visiting so I can meet you for a drink! 😉
