Might as well start this thing off with
a bang an outfit post, shall we?
Just after this past Christmas, my husband Sam and I headed up to Mt. Hood, Oregon to spend some time with his family. It was a wintery wonderland, on which I shared many a’ snapshot via my ever-active Instagram. The mountain holds a very special place in Sam’s heart as he grew up skiing there. It’s also a mutually special spot for us as we got engaged just above Timberline Lodge. More on that story for a future post.
Seeing as how the back drop up there was that of a real life snow globe, we decided to play around with my camera and get started on my outfit post reperoitre. I have been working with my camera since college, but have never really mastered technical aspects of shooting manually or with aperture. I do however have an eye and an interest in photography, so I’ve let those aspects lead me until this point. Well unbeknownst to me, Sam took a photography class in high school and has more knowledge in this subject than I do. He actually understands how a camera works (something I still don’t fully grasp) and what in the heck all the settings mean. Yet another trick up his sleeve, I tell you.
So, I’m proud to say that Sam is now officially my photographer of anything you see on here of me! Pretty impressive, right? It’s actually turned into quite a fun way to connect creatively, even when are brains our so different. It was a tough realization for me at first… seeing as how I’m usually the one with the creative juices and he handles anything and everything numbers (I still use my fingers to count). But you know what? That’s marriage and that’s life. Humbling yourself, realizing you can’t be good at everything and realizing that when you can connect on something to make both people feel included, you go for it. Much easier said than done for me sometimes.
As far as the outfit goes, it’s been one of my favorites this winter season. The poncho was a find on a whim pop-in to Francesca’s and I couldn’t get over that crisp powder blue. I was very hesitant when the poncho trend became a thing – worried it would look like a wintertime muumuu and cover any chance of showing off my body’s shape. However, not the case! The cut of this one is actually quite slimming as it drapes well to form and highlight any figure. It’s been such a fun and trendy addition to my usual classic and basic wardrobe.
And the boots? A beloved Christmas gift from Sam! I’ve wanted them for quite some time and by the time I got on my Christmas list game the year prior, it was too late. These boots have boomed in popularity in the last couple of years, even though they’ve been a handmade Maine classic since 1912! So this year I came prepared with that list. Sam ordered them in October and they were already backordered until December 15th. Nuts. But, don’t feel like you’re out of luck entirely! The company just came out with some new fun spring colors which may interest you! Or, you can certainly wait patiently and know you’ll still be investing in a classic that will last for years.
So there you have it! First outfit post? Check. And if you’re just stumbling on this post first and haven’t read a bit more of the heart & soul behind this blog of mine, I would highly recommend heading here and giving it some time. Enjoy!
