Happy Hump Day! Any chance your 2017 goals revolve around being a bit more healthy? Or are you just trying to sneak in a few more fruits and veggies into the diet after what felt like holiday party after party? I’m certainly in both of these boats, so I wanted to share my current favorite go-to smoothie that I’ve been sipping on lately!
I love a good green smoothie, but sometimes I need a little something…more. I like smoothies that are thick in consistency, have a lot of flavor, and keep me FULL without containing an excess of calories. Sometimes, it’s hard to find a good one that checks all 4 of those boxes, but this one does!
1 or 2 bananas, frozen or room temp will do! (tip: if freezing, peel and cut into pieces beforehand!)
2 cups blueberries
1 handful spinach
1 handful frozen strawberries
2 cups almond milk (I use and prefer this one)
2 tbsp of PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter
*The secret/my favorite part of this smoothie is absolutely the PB2! This stuff is so yummy, tastes exactly like putting 2 normal tbsp of peanut butter in your smoothie, but cuts down on the high fat and oils! Not that I think putting regular PB in your smoothie or eating it in general is bad… I love me some PB&J toast! But it’s a great option for smoothies as it’s in powder form and reduces some of the caloric intake that can often sneak its way into smoothies!
It’s sooo yummy! You can’t taste the spinach at all and it actually tastes like a liquid PB&J… and I mean that in the best way possible! And the boost of the PB powder with the almond milk genuinely keeps me full. So much so that I can have it in place of a meal and not feel starving 2 hours later like I do with a lot of just fruit and veggie smoothies!

I absolutely love my Ninja blender. Honest truth: I have used a Vitamix many, many times between friends and family members owning them and yes, they’re amazing. We totally wanted one for our wedding. But even with generous wedding credit, we still couldn’t pull the trigger on the high price tag. So, we researched the Ninja and decided to try it! The Ninja is just as amazing at making smoothies for a fraction of the cost! No, it doesn’t do hot soups and clean itself like the fancy Vitamix does, but to be honest… I’m more interested in using a food processor or immersion blender for those kinds of recipes. Also, cleaning the Ninja is SUPER easy – I think it’s easier than any blender I’ve ever tried! Of course, this is all just my personal opinion… and there’s nothing wrong with investing in a Vitamix because I do think they’re top of the line for a reason! But if your budget isn’t quite ready to commit to a Vitamix, I highly recommend the Ninja for powerful (and yummy) smoothie making!
For our wedding, we registered for these glasses with lids specifically for smoothies and they are one of my favorite things in our little kitchen! If both Sam and I are going to be home late and cooking a meal just isn’t practical, I will often make a smoothie and put his portion in one of these glasses with the lid on and pop it in the freezer until he gets home shortly after. I love that the lids seal it off to keep it fresh for him to enjoy! You could absolutely do this if you made too much and wanted to save some for later in the day, too!
I love IKEA finds for so many areas of our home, but these straws are my GO-TO for smoothies! It may sound silly to be picky about a plastic straw, but ones that are wide are actually quite harder to find than one may think! And the traditional skinny ones don’t work so well with a thick smoothie. These are perfectly wide for smoothies, come in fun colors (they change-up the color scheme throughout the year), and I always pick up a pack when I’m at IKEA (this isn’t that often, but a big pack will last you a while). Also… they’re so cheap!
There you have it! Smoothie talk on a Wednesday. Writing this post has me craving… so I’m off to throw everything in that Ninja blender of mine!
Do you have any favorite smoothie recipes and/or tricks? I’d love to hear them!
