Greetings from the SFO airport! As I sit here at our gate I can hardly type correctly because I’m SO excited (so please excuse any typos in this post)! We’re finally headed to TEXAS! And after just having packed (what feels like) my life away, I wanted to blog a few tips that get me through the push of prepping for a vacation.
Let me preface this post by saying that this is NOT a post for a savvy carry on or light packing situation. Let’s be real… this girl packs PLENTY. My packing methods are definitely for the over packers and must be prepared for everything types. Sorry, it’s just the truth. But I will say, I have a method to my madness down! So here are 5 quick tips I have to make sure you’re prepared for take off:
1.Piles on Piles. I clear off our bed and make piles of everything. That way I can see it all at once! I start with a lot (possible outfits, jewelry, shoes, accessories, etc.) and then question every item, making sure everything pairs well together and then whittle it down before it goes in the suitcase.
2. Don’t sacrifice your go-to products. It’s tempting to head to Target the day before a trip and load up on every mini toiletry item they have imaginable (so guilty of this in the past), but I’ve come to find that I end up missing what I usually use at home. If there are products that you can’t go a day without and you’re checking a bag anyways, just pack ’em! For example, I go through hairspray like you wouldn’t believe and the deodorant I use doesn’t come in mini-sized. So, I buy a mid-sized version of my hairspray and just go ahead and pack the deodorant. It’s just not worth it to me or my routine to buy something just because it’s small and then end up hating it while I’m there and running to the store mid trip (again, so guilty).
3. Post it notes and lists help. I can’t make lists on my phone. I need to physically check things off a list! Nothing feels better than checking off lists, am I right??? So I’ll make an ongoing list for a few days prior to travel, checking it off as I go. I’ll also label items with post-it’s and then toss them when items are packed and ready. By the time I’m ready to head out the door to the airport, it feels soooo good to toss those lists and notes in the trash and feel like I’m finally ready to leave.
4. Clear pouches are a lifesaver. I swear by clear travel pouches. In fact, I think I may be the Oprah of travel pouches. Everything I bring must have its own little home… it’s how I stay organized and remember what I’m even packing and what I have once I’m at my destination. So…. EVERYTHING GETS A CLEAR POUCH! I really love Truffle pouches, especially for my cosmetics. They’re a high price tag, but so sturdy. I stuff ’em full and throw them around and they still look new! I also love how they pack flat, which reduces a ton of bulk which often comes with large toiletry and cosmetic bags.
5. Buy your magazines and candy at Target beforehand. This one is probably the most crucial of them all. I simply can’t fly without a good gossip mag and sour candy! So I make sure to pick them up prior to the airport because a) they’re cheaper than purchasing at an overpriced terminal shop and b) I’m guaranteed to have them on hand just in case I’m running late for my flight and can’t grab any in the airport.
And that’s that! They just announced boarding so here we go! YAHOO! I’ll likely be logging off via the blog for the remainder of the week, but I WILL be Instagramming and Snapchatting (amybethcampbell) my way through the entire 5 days we’re there so if you’re curious what we’re up to in the great Lone Star State, follow me there!
I can’t wait to share our travels via social media and then with post-trip photos and memories in future posts! So until then, let’s all do a big fingers and toes crossed that 5 days is long enough for me to come home with a drawl…
Wheels up, Y’ALL!
