Our favorite part of our wedding day was our ceremony. It was the most calm and at peace I felt throughout the entire day. We deeply cherished each moment that took place: the minutes before, me walking down the aisle, my daddy giving me away, listening to the hymns, exchanging words and vows, the rings, taking our first communion together as husband and wife, being pronounced….and every little detail in between.
Such a ceremony was a gift. A time standing still type gift. Which for us, was so sacred and beautiful. We both experienced God in different ways throughout our ceremony, and still love to remind each other of those blessings. Reminders that the Holy Spirit was so present in that place, the church I grew up in, blessing His children with the gift of marriage.
Our prayer as a couple over our entire wedding was that those who attended would experience Jesus. That they would hear or see something different about our view of marriage. That they would not just hear about our love for each other, but more about our love for the Lord. That they would see the tough reality of marriage beyond the ‘happily ever after’ and support us in the commitment to our marriage for all of the days we’re given it – through the good, bad, and the ugly.
And readers, hear us. We have experienced the sweet goodness and the horrific ugly. Our first year of marriage has been hard. There have been moments where we’re madly in love with each other and giddy at being new roommates! There have been moments where we’re disgusted with each other, not knowing why we signed up for this thing in the first place. And there have been moments where we have physically held each other up, weeping in a hospital rooms and beyond, struck with more grief than we ever thought we could bear. But by the grace of Jesus, we’re in this thing together.
My prayer with today’s post is that you see in the photos what I’m talking about. That you see the moments I’m describing for yourself for the first time, or a sweet reminder if you were present. I don’t post any of these wedding photos with a prideful heart. I post them with a heart that desires to show others that the only way that our wedding day continues to be a place of joy for us is through our faith in Christ. And that the love we experienced in that ceremony and the love we experience for each other as husband and wife is simply a tiny glimpse and fraction of the love Christ has for all of us.
If anything I shared about our wedding ceremony resonated or brought up questions, I would be so honored to chat. Let’s get coffee! And talk about life, boys, marriage, and why I love Jesus so much. Not in SF, CA? I’m great at FaceTime 🙂
I’ll be sharing the final wedding photos and all those pretty little reception details here on Friday! Thank you so much for following along here with me on our “wedding week”!
