Did yesterday’s post get you slightly excited, yet slightly horrified that it’s summer which means: swimsuit season? Well y’all, it did for me. Hello, my old friends bikinis. I have a love/hate relationship with you. But wait a minute… maybe you can spend a bit more time in the box under my bed… because guess what? ONE PIECES ARE IN.
That’s right, y’all! One pieces! I’m seeing them everywhere. And quite honestly, I can’t get enough! I’m a lady that has always preferred to be a bit more covered up, especially in the swimwear department. However, I always feel like one piece styles end up being too sporty and feeling like I’m on swim team again OR too conservative (why so much fabric??). It’s hard to find a happy medium! Well, thank goodness fashion trends change… because right now there are so many cute ones out there!
Can we talk about that cactus number? And the hot pinks? Fun prints? And you can never go wrong with black. It’s always so classic and slimming. And with our recent trip to Texas where I ate all the BBQ and Tex-Mex I could consume…. I’ll happily pick the slimming black option right now. #needmoregreensmoothies
Another ‘plus’ I see in one pieces right now? They STAY ON. Really though, I hate trying to be active in a bikini and worrying about if anyone’s getting a free show. Maybe that’s just me, but I get downright paranoid when someone asks me to play beach volleyball, go for a swim (instead of a float – my usual preference), or ride a water slide and I’m in a bikini I don’t trust.
And before you start going through a mental battle on swimsuit season in general… hear me out with this pep talk:
I think every woman struggles with putting on a bathing suit – period. No matter our shape, size, skin color… you name it. We’re exceptionally hard on ourselves, lighting in fitting rooms stinks, we don’t feel comfortable showing that much skin, we’re embarrassed about lines, marks, bruises, scars, and we compare ourselves to the models that are wearing them all in these darn stock images! Will you hear me for a second? Stop. You’re not alone. I’ve had stretch marks since 7th grade puberty. I’ve got scars that are from oopsies as well as painful surgeries. My thighs touch. And yeah, I don’t love any of those things. And if given the option, my superficial self would change them. But, I don’t need to. At. All. It’s my body, and my body will do extraordinary things in this life but it will also fail me. Because its temporary and of this earth. So, will you remind yourself of that? As you order or try on 20 options and find yourself criticizing and wanting to reach for a bucket of ice cream? Or heading straight to the gym to workout till you pass out? You don’t need to. Feel like you didn’t do your best at portion control this spring and want to go for a one piece because it makes YOU feel more comfortable? Do it, girl. Been working out so hard that you’re actually sorta thinking your body is summer bikini ready? Yes, girl. Show off your hard work! But either way, remind yourself that both scenarios and everything in between don’t really matter. Your worth is never found in your body alone.
You with me?? Let’s do this, swimwear. And I’m coming after you, cute black one piece.
