Happy Friday! I’m sure if you follow other bloggers and have logged onto social media at all in the past 24 hours you are WELL aware that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is in full swing for those with early access. I know, I know… it’s so overwhelming. So many blog posts and Instagrams, so much product to look through… it just feels like there is so little time and money for it all. Ladies, I feel you. Right there with you. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure if I was going to share my picks because I thought y’all may be sick of it! But then, I decided that because I try to keep my blog as real as possible, I needed to share my REAL thoughts on the sale and be honest about how I personally approach it! Because there really are some killer deals amidst the madness and it doesn’t have to be so life consuming. So, here we go!
Let me break it down here paragraph by paragraph:
Make a fall inventory and wishlist before you shop. Do a closet inventory and really investigate what gaps you need to fill. Plenty of blanket scarfs but no actual sweaters to layer them on top of? Head to the sweaters section, stat. Totally good on accessories but have no boots? Boot time! Really map out your game plan and establish your ‘needs’ vs. your ‘wants’ before you start scrolling through all the gorgeous inventory and blackout. Been there. Guilty.
Things to splurge on first: Boots, Coats & Jackets, Handbags. These are the things that sell out quick, of course, but I really think these are where the bang for your buck goes. Let’s be real: these items are all high price points, especially when they’re leather, high quality, designer, etc. For me, my top pick in this category is THE Tory Burch leather riding boots. Expensive? Yes. Worth it for the sale price? Definitely. A good pair of tall riding boots never goes out of style and can quite literally be worn all fall and winter. For the past decade, I’ve purchased a few pairs of decent quality riding boots but they’ve all fallen apart eventually. I think this is the year that I decide that one pair of quality boots will be the one pair I buy for years to come.
Beauty Buys that I think or worth it: The perfectly packaged perfume and makeup sets that are specific to the sale are absolutely darling and would make gorgeous gifts. Buuuuut if you’re trying to save on what you only really need, I say go for the tools that are high price points first. Items like hair dryers and irons, Clarisonics, a huge bottle of Kiehl’s Creme de Corps, etc. are all ‘holy grail’ beauty products for good reason and never go on sale unless it’s Anniversary time. Makeup kits also may give you more product than you originally wanted to purchase, so though totally fun and splurgy-feeling for a lower price point, you may want to stick to buying things like lipsticks, eyeshadows, perfumes, etc. at regular price if you’re really only going to use one color and/or scent in the long run.
Give your undergarment, sleepwear, and activewear wardrobes a makeover: Let’s be real, these are the areas that most women’s closets lack the most. Still wearing bras that don’t fit? Undies in a lacy frayed bunch? Workout clothes with holes in them? We’ve all been there. I guarantee we all have some of these items that we’re wearing out so hard and are too stubborn to replace because they’re so expensive. But yet, they’re all necessities! This is the time to overhaul, y’all. It’s time to bite the bullet and just stock up.
Story time: Last year, I finally purchased 10 pairs or Hanky Pankey undies and 3 new bras and tossed all my cheap unraveling versions. I took good care of them all year and guess what? They’re still going strong! I’m likely only going to purchase 1 bra and a few panties because that’s all I really need! Moral of the story? These things last, they’re worth buying now, and though they’re not as fun as some of the other items on the sale, they may be your best investment.
Accessory game plan: I’m a self-admitting accessory addict, so it’s really no surprise that this is the section where I personally get overwhelmed. So many good things! But here’s how I keep myself in check. I go immediately back to that inventory and wishlist. If I already know what I own, I’m less likely to get things that are too similar to justify. It also keeps me in check of doing a little outfit planning and asking myself ‘how many ways can I wear this (scarf, hat, watch, necklace, etc.) to make it really worth the money?’ If you’re going to only wear a scarf or hat a few times but will certainly wear a classic watch daily…. well, then there’s your answer on where to invest and where to reserve.
Don’t compare your cart to your favorite bloggers. Eek, this is where I keep it real. Ladies, mega bloggers do this for a living! Their carts are loaded up and their promoting it because they’re working! I know it’s a strange concept to accept, but it’s the truth. Don’t beat yourself up and play the comparison game just because other women whom you may follow on social media (OR your own girlfriends!) are stocking up on items that you may want but can’t commit to. You don’t have to get it all. If you make that inventory list and realize that you’d give up everything else for one watch or one pair of boots or one beauty item…. reward yourself for the hard work you’ve put in to make that purchase justified and feel so good about. You’ve earned it!
Let’s not let someone else’s earnings or purchases or ‘stuff’ dictate how we feel about ourselves. We are worth so much more than that. Can I get an ‘amen’?
I hope this guide has helped! Please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask questions about anything I listed on the collage above or the slider below. I didn’t list anything that I don’t absolutely love or own myself and I’m happy to give honest and genuine feedback about these products or any others you may be considering! I’m a Nordies girl through and through and have been for years, so I feel pretty dang confident about sharing some good feedback to y’all and your shopping needs 😉
