Happy Monday to you! We seem to be finally settling into a rhythm over here with Dallas which feels wonderful! I’m eager to get into our new normal routine, which includes me keeping up with blogging and Beautycounter… so I’m excited to share this post with y’all today!
When I launched Beautycounter in this post, I spelled out that I really wanted there to be a focus on transparency as I was sharing about products. After all, I may have become a consultant, but I do not proclaim to have tried or own every single product (yet… haha!) and I certainly didn’t commit to the entire line upon first purchase. But that’s normal to me, as I think it would be normal to any woman, so I’m eager to share my thoughts about each product along the way!
For my first Beautycounter order, I kept things simple and only purchased what I was out of at that point in time. Have I tried more than these products as samples? Yes. Did I want to buy way more than this? YESSSS. Sorry, husband. This is where all of my budget is going for the unforeseeable future. But here’s what made its way into the cart first and here are my thoughts on them!
Nourishing Cream Cleanser
I’m the pickiest beyond pickiest when it comes to face wash and cleansers. They’re ALWAYS either too drying, too foamy, too goopy, too gel-like, too oily, too fragrant, no fragrance, smells soapy, don’t get makeup off, gets makeup off but burns my eyes… I mean the list goes on and on. I’ve also tried what seems like every cleanser out there since I was in junior high. From drugstore to department store… you name the brand and I’ve tried it. So when I first tried Beautycounter’s cleanser I was certain I’d hate it. Certain. Aaaannnnddd….. I love it. I’m really not just saying that! I absolutely love it!
It’s interesting to me that they titled it a cream cleanser, as I normally associate cream cleansers as being super thick. This isn’t thick, but it has a luxurious gel-like feel without feeling like a gel cleanser that doesn’t foam up at all and starts sliding off your face. It still doesn’t foam up much, but that’s actually a good thing as the reason many cleansers do that is from harsh sulfate ingredients that are drying and often cause skin irritation or allergies. The “fragrance” (in quotes because Beautycounter doesn’t use fragrance, it’s just scented from the citrus ingredients) is light, fresh, and citrusy…. which is so refreshing. I only wash my face at night (and splash it with water in the mornings) since my skin is dry, but this is gentle enough I honestly could probably use it twice a day. I’ve also used it in the shower with my Clarisonic (still on sale with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, if you’re interested!) to exfoliate and it works beautifully with it. If you’re a Clarisonic girl, you’ll know that it’s hard to find cleansers that work just right with them… and this is a definite YES! And if your skin is more normal to oily, I’d still highly recommend it! Don’t let the ‘cream’ name scare you away… this cleanser is absolutely perfect for every skin type and gives your face that clean (but not overly clean and tight!) fresh face feeling that you love so much after you wash. Best feeling, right?!
Nourishing Night Cream
Night cream is also one product that I’m quite picky over. Not quite as much as I am with cleansers, but still pretty darn picky. I’ve always preferred a good thick night cream because I like that feeling when applying. However, the more thick creams I used to use and put on…the more I realized they were really just sitting on top of my skin. And in the morning, when I would wash it my face only with water, I’d realize that all that cream would quickly rinse off and I’d be tight and dry again! So when I started researching the ingredients in so many of those creams and realizing the negative health impacts they were having on me and my body, I decided I was okay with trying out a night cream that wasn’t thick (like a body butter consistency).
That being said, this night cream isn’t thick. It comes in a pump packaging, and I use two small pumps for my entire face and neck (don’t forget to always moisturize your neck!). Once applied, this stuff soaks on in like THAT. I mean really, my skin just drinks this stuff up! At first…. this bothered me. I want to be slathered at night!! But again, I realized that due to the ingredients, this product would act differently than I was used to. So I gave it a week and I can honestly now say that I’ve adjusted well and I actually love the way my skin absorbs it! When I splash my face with water the next morning, I see no change in moisture! One of the main ingredients in the night cream is Coconut Oil, which if I often use before I wash my face to remove makeup. I find that with the process of coconut oil, cream cleanser, then night cream… I don’t feel the residue from the coconut oil and my skin feels balanced and refreshed. If I just leave straight coconut oil on my face, I break out. But I haven’t seen any blemishes since using this night cream! I am considering purchasing one of Beautycounter’s Facial Oils to mix in with the nourishing night cream in the future, especially as fall approaches and my skin gets drier. And don’t let yourself stick to the ‘day’ or ‘night’ names. I’ve also been using this cream in the mornings! It worked wonderfully under makeup and kept my skin hydrated without being greasy.
If you’re a normal skin gal, I’d recommend using the Nourishing Day Cream for AM and Nourishing Night Cream for PM. OR, you could try the new Countermarch Adaptive Moisture Lotion! My close girlfriend/client ordered it from me and she’s loving it (and she’s as picky as I am about products!). She too gravitates towards a thick nighttime cream but just yesterday she texted me saying that she put it on before bed, had a lazy Sunday morning and hadn’t washed or moisturized her face and it didn’t feel dry like it normal did! 🙌🏼 So with all that, there are certainly options in the moisturizer category from Beautycounter!
Hand Cream in Citrus Mimosa
I’m a hand cream addict. ADDICT. There must be one in my purse, by my nightstand, and in my car at ALL times. When I was a nanny, I would wash my hands constantly. And now that I’m a puppy mama…. I’d multiply that hand washing times 100! So I constantly need something that’s going to soak in but not leave me greasy and unable to open a jar, door, switch, etc.
Initially, I was kinda surprised they used the word ‘cream’ on the product for similar reasons I’ve already mentioned above. The consistency was not ultra thick like I normally associate with cream. But boy does it soak on it! And again, that’s what it SHOULD be doing… instead of just sitting on top of the skin and requiring you to continuously reapply. I love how this soaks in quickly so I can be pulling Lord knows what out of Dallas’ mouth within a minute of applying. I also don’t have to worry about any toxins that I would put in Dallas’ mouth or myself after eating finger food. It also smells absolutely divine…. especially for a citrus scented lover like myself! When I put this on before bedtime, I’ll also add-on a little coconut oil to my cuticles for extra moisture. I kid you not, when I wake up the next morning my hands still feel buttery soft and moisturized! This has never been the case for any hand lotion or cream I’ve ever put on at night before bed, so I honestly feel like this is truly an amazing product. I only purchased 1 tube of this, but you can best believe I’ll get 2 more in my next order!
Lip Conditioner in Peppermint
Total transparency: when I blogged about a peppermint lip balm in this blog post, I hadn’t yet tried the Beautycounter peppermint lip balm. So, when I said I loved that one… I meant it. But now?? Well… I just have to come out and say it: NOTHING ELSE COMPARES.
My Seester actually gave me this lip balm as a gift! And she totally ordered it long before I was even testing products or even thinking about coming a consultant! Both my Seester and I share the same love for a good minty lip balm, so I knew if she raved about it, I would likely love it as well. Well she was 100000% right (as she usually is as my older sister 😉 ) and now I can’t live without this little minty jar of perfection.
It’s so incredibly smooth to apply (no grain or grit to it) and is truly MINTY. Like, tingly minty! I happen to love that and the mo minty mo betta in my book. Similar to the hand and face lotion, this stuff truly sinks in after applying and keeps things well moisturized. It now permanently lives on my nightstand and I love putting it on before bed and waking up to still moisturized lips! It’s honestly so much better than all the traditional lip balms I’ve ever tried and doesn’t feel like they’re just goopy on top of my lips or like I have to constantly reapply them. This is now forever a staple for me and another product that I’ll likely grab another of so I can have one in my purse as well! If you’re not a mint lover, don’t fret. They also carry the Lip Conditioner Calendula Balm!
[If you’d like to shop any of these products mentioned, my Beautycounter website is: www.beautycounter.com/amybethcampbell]
Just make sure my face pops up saying that you’re shopping with me and then go on and shop as you choose! Yay!
And those are the products I first ordered! My next order will be shampoo and conditioner, makeup, and a few more skincare items [YAY! I’m so excited to review it all!]. I do feel like a broken record reiterating this, but I just keep replacing what I’m currently out of with the Beautycounter version. If you’re thinking of doing the same, I’ve also found it super helpful to read the product reviews on the site! Most of them are raving reviews, which is great, but if there’s been something not great… people aren’t shy about that too. That’s helping me make decisions when purchasing so I hope it could help y’all too!
And as always, if you have any questions whatsoever about switching over to safer beauty, Beautycounter in general, specific products, skincare or makeup concerns or thoughts…. please please please don’t hesistate to reach on out! Being a consultant, I have access to all of the information about products, ingredients, how it performs, information about the company…. whatever you need! It’s my job to make sure I can answer any questions you may have and I absolutely love that portion of being a consultant! I’d love to chat with you whether it be in the comments below, via email (email@example.com), direct message on Instagram, or we could even do a Google hangout or FaceTime or something! Or if you’re in the SF Bay Area, let’s meet up for lunch or coffee! Or come on over and meet Dallas and we’ll also talk beauty! Just let me know! 🙂
Hope you’re having a wonderful start to your week!
