A few weeks ago, when I had no laptop and no real way of creating new content on here, I was a bit more active on Insta Stories. I asked followers what they wanted to see on there during that weird interim time, and a makeup tutorial was a top request! It was during this time that Beautycounter had just launched their ‘Flawless in Five’ set, so I showed a tutorial doing my own version! I wanted to now share those products I used here in a blog post as well as share my “bit longer than 5 minute face” that I do on days when I really “get ready” and I’m not just running errands in workout clothes 😉
Let me explain the products above with my step by step process below. This is all after I’ve cleansed my face and it’s ready for makeup! And yes, all but 2 of these products are all Beautycounter. It’s just that good, y’all! It’s just that good!
I used to be the queen of primers. I honestly have tried what feels like every option on the market! But I’ve never ever had one I’ve truly loved. They often do weird things with your foundation as you wear it throughout the day as you get more oily. I have combination skin, so I need a primer or product to balance my oil, yet keep my skin hydrated throughout the day! In comes the No. 3 Balancing Facial Oil! Oh my word, it’s life changing. I just recently got it and I’ve been using it to prime my face pre-foundation. It’s made my foundation look natural and stay put all day and continues to keep oil at bay. If you have combination or normal skin, you need this! It will adapt to your skin’s needs! And if you’re in the market for something for dry skin, look at the No. 2 Plumping Facial Oil. If you struggle with dull and lifeless skin, try the No. 1 Brightening Facial Oil. You can use these as your sole moisturizer or you can add them to your daytime moisturizer!
Tint Skin Foundation
Similar to primers, I’ve tried my fair share of foundations. I’ve done full coverage, light coverage, and tinted moisturizers. This Tint Skin Foundation magically feels like a tinted moisturizer, applies seamlessly, and the coverage is buildable. You can apply it like you would a tinted moisturizer (with your fingers) and be out the door in 5 minutes. However, I’ve lately been applying it with a foundation brush and it’s been the perfect way to easily build coverage with less product than you’d use when using your fingers. I’ve just been using a foundation brush I already had, but I can’t stop reading the positive reviews about this foundation brush, especially when paired specifically with the tint skin. I finally ordered it and I should receive it this coming week!
A little note on liquid foundation: if you haven’t used one before, I highly recommend making the switch! I realize it may feel different and some worry it will be ‘too cakey’ or heavy feeling and looking, but I promise you that just isn’t the case with this tint skin! Liquid formula is so much more natural looking than powder foundation as it melts into your skin instead of sitting on top of it. And if you really don’t like foundation, try the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer! It has very minimal coverage and SPF so it’s perfect for the natural look on the go!
A magical little pen that covers dark circles, imperfections, and anything else on your face that needs a little extra help? Done with the Touchup Skin Concealer Pen! I love the design of this product – you click it to have the product come out of the little brush. I feel like the brush gives the best, most natural coverage vs. your typical concealer pen that just squirts out product. It’s not s super thick formula, so I like to move pretty quickly blending it in with my ring finger once I’ve applied it. I can’t say much more about this other than it’s a staple in my makeup bag!
Eyes & Brows
I’d like to do a separate blog post and tutorial on applying my eyeshadow in the future. Because let’s just say I have something fabulous up my sleeve when it comes to sharing about eyeshadow product! Worth the wait, I promise! But until then, I can’t get enough of a simple peachy bronze eye. Simple and pairs well with my blue eyes!
I also wanted to share that I’m switching from a powder brow product to the Color Define Brow Pencil. I finally ran out of a product I had for a year and I’ve decided a pencil with a built in spoolie (brush at the end) was way easier than what I was doing with a powder, separate brush, and separate spoolie! I love a good defined brow, so brow product is essential for me! When I do a more in-depth eye makeup tutorial, I’ll give more brow tips then, too!
There’s one drugstore find that’s not in the ‘safer beauty’ category that I just can’t give up: this L’Oreal Lash Primer. It’s a white primer that you coat your lashes pre-mascara and it lengthens and volumizes your lashes when paired with your regular mascara! According to the EWG, it’s ratings aren’t on super high level of toxicity. It’s rated as a ‘4’ and I really try to steer clear of anything higher than a 5. Because I still firmly believe in balance in my lifestyle, I’m deciding to continue to use it for now, especially since I don’t use it like a do my tinted mascara. With regular mascara, I’m switching to the Beautycounter Volumizing Mascara. Because I like to really “get in there” with my mascara and get it right up to my lash lines, I’ve noticed that the mascaras I used to use really sting and irritate my eyes. That’s because they’re filled with junk ingredients – yuck! Mascara is the one product I use every single day no matter what…So I’m done with stingy eyes and I’m making the switch!
I use bronzer year round to warm up my face and give it dimension. I used to swear by Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer, and then realized it’s ridden with parabens that are linked to hormone disruption. No more! The Color Counter Matte Bronzer is the perfect replacement and it’s even softer on my face/lasts so much better! There’s no sparkle in it, which I prefer, and it’s the perfect bronzer to swipe below your cheekbones, under your jaw line, and at your hairline to give your face some defined life! This bronzer is a key element to amping up your makeup routine!
I am a blush gal. I no joke have 10+ MAC blushes… that are now just sitting in my makeup drawer waiting to be tossed. I used to love MAC blushes because they’re so pigmented and last all day, but they also contain ingredients that are on Beautycounter’s Never List, and I’m no longer comfortable using them. I’d never been fond of cream blushes, as I’ve felt like they make me oily and slide off my face. Until…. my blush game forever changed. The Color Pinch Cream Blusher is literally my new favorite makeup product. FAVORITE. It’s so pigmented (much more so than MAC), stays perfectly put but is moisturizing without being oily (so it won’t look cakey on dry cheek bones but also won’t slide down south), and it’s just SO bendable so it looks much more natural than powder blushes! You can apply this with your fingers (like I showed on Insta Stories) but lately I’ve been applying it straight on my cheeks and then blending it with a blush brush and I think it works soooo well. I’ve just ordered the ‘carmel’ color which would work on nearly any skin tone if you’re not a pink blush kinda gal. Seriously y’all, if there’s one new product you need to pick up on this list… it’s this one!
One makeup product that can get overlooked is a good setting powder. I think women fear it will make their skin look dull or will mess up the work they’ve done in applying all their makeup! But it’s the opposite! It’s going to set your makeup so it preserves it throughout the day! It’s perfect for keeping shine at bay throughout the day. I used to use blot sheets throughout the day and just realized that they’re made with mineral oil. So basically they’re made to make you think you’re helping your oil but it’s spurring on more oil. Ummm, no. I’m officially switching to the Mattifying Powder instead!
I’m a lip product junkie. 5+ lip products can be found in my purse at all times. I love to layer and mix! I also love a stronger lip color this time of year. Beautycounter Lip Sheers are incredible for layering and don’t ever feel sticky, tacky, or have a metallic taste (which is so bad for us to ingest day in and out!). To be honest, sometimes I need a little more pigment than just the lip sheers offer. Let me say this: more Beautycounter pigment is on the horizon… shhh! I can’t spill anymore beans than that! But until that day, I’ve been loving the BareMinerals Liquid Lipcolor. It’s not quite as safe as the lip sheers, but it’s formulated without major ingredient concerns found in most lip colors so that’s wonderful! This liquid lipstick is the fist I’ve ever liked (so many are so drying!) and I love it paired with the Beautycounter lip sheers. I’ve been loving the shade ‘slay’ and then topped with either the ‘Petal’ Lip Sheer for a more pink tone or the ‘Twig’ Lip Sheer fore a more nude tone. Lip color is like painting… you can mix colors to get your perfect shade!
And there’s the final product! I’d love to be able to demonstrate how I apply it all again in video form… I’m thinking about doing a Facebook live on the amy beth campbell page. Are you following along there?! 🙂 That way it would remain there instead of disappearing like videos do on Insta Stories. Thoughts? Other ideas? Please let me know! I want to be able to share on a platform that is most helpful to y’all!
And if you ever have specific questions about makeup and Beautycounter, I’d love to chat! Let’s set up a phone date (I have today, so I’m no stranger to this!!) or email or whatever works best for you! My girlfriends and family members know that I could talk all things beauty for hours…. so please let me know if I can chat with you! I’m happy help with specific products, color matching, application advice, talking through making the switch over to safer beauty… anything!
I hope all this makeup info has been helpful and useful! And I also hope it inspires y’all to see how switching to safer beauty can still be just as fun and glamorous as shopping for and applying makeup has always been for me! Knowing that I’m not only using products that are high performance but also completely safe for me to use is such a wonderful feeling!
