A few weeks ago, a dear friend of mine turned the flirty and thriving 3-0 and her sweet husband threw her a surprise party with dinner and dancing. The evening was a huge success and so much fun, but hours prior to attending, I still had no idea what to wear.
I had purchased this Eliza J little black dress (or LBD, for short) and Nine West booties for my brother’s memorial services in the fall. Now there are two purchases I never wanted to have to make. My emotional connection to clothing so badly wanted these two pieces to be shoved in the back of the closet or given away after the services were complete, but I resisted. Then months later, when it came time to get ready for this happy celebration, I felt a fun reminder from Tim. He would have absolutely said something like, “That’s dumb. Wear the dress! And the shoes! You paid for it. Don’t be wasteful.”
So, I did. And now I have memories in this outfit of singing in honor of my brother at his services as well as doing the Whip and Nae Nae in honor of my friend’s birth. You know how I continue to talk about this weird balance of joy and grief I’m learning in life? Well, here it is. In the form of a LBD and booties.
And today, I’m sharing it with you! I have a feeling us ladies all have a black dress somewhere in the back of our closets that doesn’t get much love due to a multitude of reasons. Black often feels dark, plain, blah. For these reasons, I rarely wear it. But the easiest way to dress it up and make it fun? Accessories.
A leopard clutch, a fun necklace with a pop of color, and a strong lip color and suddenly you’re ready to party! I love how simple it is to accessorize something quickly and transform an outfit. I wish these pics could have shown off a bit more of the actual dress, but it was freezing and we were in a hurry to get to the party on time to not miss or mess up the surprise! Oh well. Still learning how to do this whole ‘faux modeling photoshoot for blog posts’ thing.
Though my clutch and necklace are no longer available, here’s a list of some other options and outfit details:
Perhaps this coming weekend may be a good time to bust out that LBD and go on a hot date… Hello, Valentine’s Day!
