Camellias are the perfect pop of color in winter, aren’t they?
Every year around January 5th, I become a monster. A raging, cleaning, ‘everything I own is overwhelming me and it all must be purged immediately‘ monster. I put away every single ounce of Christmas in my home, eliminate the color red or anything pine scented, and then go through and organize every drawer and closet of my living space. And then? I realize I’m cold, Christmas cheer is lost, there is no color in my home and I’m online perusing condo rentals in Palm Springs or Maui.
So, needless to say, I absolutely love Christmas but can’t handle the bleak aftermath. In an effort to combat this, I quickly begin to realize that there is no shame in sprucing up my space with some serious pops of color hinting towards spring and summer.
Now seeing as this is a brand spanking new blog, I couldn’t just show all of my cards with a home tour right off the bat! No, no. That will come with time! But what I can show you are little vignettes of my home where I added some fresh new accents in order to contest the dreary spell of post-Christmas decor.
Palm leaves are all the rage right now in interior design and I must say, I’m signing up in big ways. Seeing as how I love a dreamy tropical vacation and we were blessed to be given the honeymoon trip of lifetime to Bora Bora… I’m open arms when it comes to emulating the tropics in my home. These palm leaves were a recent find at Pottery Barn during a crazy-fantastic sale. They’re no longer available online, but try your local store! I’m usually against faux floral in my home, but I couldn’t bring myself to let these guys go. I still can’t decide if they’re just borderline cheesy or 100% Velveeta. I think I’m okay with either outcome. I do love a good tiki bar, so that may have something to do with my admiration for them as well. They were also $5. So there’s that, too. Also… can we talk about how tan we were on our honeymoon? I promise we wore sunscreen, but my word. That’s tan.
This Home Goods ceramic pineapple lives on our kitchen shelves year round, so that’s not new. But the pop of green apples brightens the space that was the home of a little mini kitchen Christmas tree. I love how they just zing amidst some of our most elegant wedding gifts.
A little peek into my bookshelf styling. These shelves have color on them year round as well, but my eye is certainly gravitating towards this corner of our home in this winter season. I also recently added my wedding shoes to the mix because gosh darn it, if you can only wear those babies once (and I didn’t even wear them for the entirety of the day, switched to Jack Rogers) why not at least look at them fondly rather than have them tucked away in a box, right?
Hello, pink stripe pillow! This was also a fabulous Pottery Barn final sale gem. It’s no secret that I love pink and I’m thankful my husband allows it in our home. A cozy corner to curl up and read or work is a must for me, and this pop of pink makes it feel that much more inviting.
Looking to add some pops of color to your own space? As I mentioned above, Pottery Barn is having a major clearance within their stores right now. In addition to the palms and pillow, I also grabbed a gorgeous silver picture frame that was normally $30, but I paid $6.29, simply because it was out of its original packaging. Fun tip: nearly all stores are having serious sales this time of year because they’re coming up on their annual storewide inventory and trying to sell off as much as possible before they have to count it all. Hooray! My years of past retail experience, benefitting us all. So if you find a free moment in your week, pop into stores like Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, West Elm, etc. and see what goodies they may have!
Happy clearance shopping & happy pops of color styling!
