Happy Friday! This short week felt especially long for me. Funny how that is, isn’t it?! I think because it followed such a lovely and productive 3-day weekend. During that extra time off, I shared that I was able to check off a lot of to-do’s from my never-ending list! Well, a handful of those tasks involved sprucing up our ‘living room’!
I’m putting ‘living room’ in quotes because it’s really just half of our one big great room, the other half being our dining table (or you could say ‘dining room’)… but for us, it’s our living room! And it’s the space where we both spend the bulk of our time together when we’re home! So naturally, I’m constantly looking at it, analyzing it, and thinking about how to redecorate it. 🙈 #thelifeofabc
Y’all know how pink it was in here for Christmastime, which of course I adored. But come January, I’m always ready for a change from all the ‘extra’ that comes with Christmas decor! It’s easy to feel like things are bare and dull in terms of decor post-holidays, but I look at it as a clean slate! A chance to add in different pops of color, to move things around and find new homes for old books and accessories, aaaaaand maybe add in a few new things, too!
The far back corner of this room has bothered me ever since we got married, so I’ve been trying to find a solution that involved more storage but didn’t get lost in the darkness of the space. We’ve had a simple set of side tables on either side of the couch, but I’ve never been in love with them. Well, I finally found a new side table that I was crazy for and such a steal of a price at Home Goods (with neutral faux snake-skin and studded details… swoon!) which prompted me too say adios to the pair of side tables and purchase a budget friendly glass shelf from IKEA for that darn corner! Our coffee table is also from IKEA, and in the same collection as the shelf, so I knew they’d compliment each other. Bingo! The space now looks bigger, there’s more room to display special wedding gifts year round instead of seasonally, and I’m now in love with the little space!
Speaking of IKEA again, I posted this Instagram sharing that I picked up their turquoise velvet pillow covers for only $8 a pop and they have made such a difference! I love that they’re a fun pop of one of my favorite colors, pair well with all the blue & white in our home, feel so fresh for the new year and also hint at spring (please come sooner!)…plus, they give my dear husband a break from all the pink 😉
With those few budget friendly changes, I feel like I was able to make the space feel so different and fresh… the change I needed/was looking for!
There’s just something to be said for a refresh of home decor in the New Year, isn’t there?! Maybe it’s just me… but the moment my home feels happy, fresh, and complete (for the moment, that is 😉)… I feel like a new woman who can tackle anything! When my home feels put together, I too feel put together!
