Apparently, today is National Margarita Day. Excuse me, but where is the official calendar for these holidays? I need to know these things before waking up on a Monday morning and realizing what’s happening by a flood of marg pics on my Instagram feed! I also need to know because I had planned on sharing this gin based beverage here today a week ago sooo…. sorry, tequila. Gin wins with ABC today (but I really do love margaritas, too).
As you may have seen, Cocktails and Cupcakes was a success of a soirée. But you know what was probably the biggest success of the day? This gin fizz. I’m telling you, the ladies loved it! We even made a non-alcholic version for 3 ladies expecting babies and they loved them, too! Now that’s the key to success in a drink, I think. Pregnant ladies telling you something is yummy even without booze. You just can’t argue with that. So let’s get to it, shall we?
What you need:
Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice
What to do: In a chilled cocktail glass, squeeze a lime wedge worth of juice into the bottom. Add the ice, about glass half full. Add gin. You or your guest’s preference on how much! Add half a glass worth of grapefruit juice. Fill the rest up (the other half’s worth) with tonic water. Add a fresh lime wedge into the glass. Give it a good stir. Clink! Cheers!
I know I said here that it’s rare for me to pour myself a drink beyond special occasions but my, my. This gin fizz has called my name several times since we threw that party (and even made the Instagram cut, here). It’s so light and refreshing and perfect for spring weather.
So if you’re not up for celebrating with a marg today, certainly opt for the gin fizz. I think your Monday happy hour could certainly use one. Note: this cocktail also pairs well with The Bachelor at 8pm, PST. Just saying.
