Happy Friday! Coming at you with a fresh ‘Friday Favorites’ – a little series I like to do every few Fridays or so with a round up of what I’m loving currently that week! This Friday Favorite post may just be my favorite to date!
Lilly Pulitzer, Starbucks, Swell Bottles, New Friends, and Jesus
First, let’s talk about the Lilly Pulitzer + Starbucks S’well Water Bottles collab. I mean, what a dream collab! I have wanted a Swell bottle ever since they came out but couldn’t commit to the higher price tag (even though I know they’re worth it to keep your drinks hot and cold for hours!). But when I found out that this collaboration between brands was happening, of COURSE I needed to get my hands on one! So, here’s the really fun story of how I scored one:
The moment they announced the launch, I started doing some extensive research. Since they only released them in 4,000 Starbucks nationwide (that’s not that many seeing as how many Sbux exist in total!) and because the area we live in isn’t very girly and preppy, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to hunt one down in close proximity. I thought I may have more luck hunting one down in the suburbs 20 minutes away, but was also worried they would be swooped since when I went to the ‘burbs for the Lilly For Target launch a few years ago, it was quite literally a circus (that I still laugh about telling stories from). So, I started my search in my own neighborhood.
The launch was officially on the 15th, but of course I walked down the street first thing on Monday morning to inquire at my local Sbux. When I asked, the manager said, “Weren’t you in here yesterday?! I don’t know yet, but we just got shipment so keep checking back this week”. Needless to say, she was less than enthused with me and my hunt on some weird water bottle she had never heard about…. but all I could really think about was the fact that another girl in our neighborhood had already asked. Was it possible that someone else, in our hipster filled ‘hood, was also a Lilly fan?! And whoever she was, was I going to have to fight her for a bottle on the 15th?!
Well, I took a minute and then thought about my new friend Amber. Amber and I recently connected after following each other on Instagram for a while and then realizing that we were in fact neighbors! Isn’t that amazing?! Knowing we had similar taste already, I decided to text her asking if perhaps she was a Lilly fan and had by any chance asked this specific Starbucks about the bottles. Welp, she wrote back instantly saying ‘YES’ and that she was THE girl! Isn’t that just hilarious?! Of course it was her!
So, we decided to make a game plan to begin scouting the Starbucks all over the Bay Area for the week and if we were so lucky, we’d purchase one for the other. We also each wanted a specific (different) pattern, which we felt like would work in our favor so we didn’t have to fight over one! Haha! Amber’s job has her commuting all over the Bay Area, so she was determined to find them at some point! All I can say is, praise God for friends who are just as obsessive as you because Amber’s hunt at Sbux after Sbux was IMPRESSIVE and I was so grateful!
So, also being the obsessive compulsive girl I am once I have an idea in my head, I decided to head to another Sbux by the grocery store on Monday… just in case. I didn’t have high hopes since it was already early in the week and Amber hadn’t had any luck throughout the Bay yet, but I thought ‘you never know‘!
Well, after explaining what I was looking for and the baristas being utterly confused and telling me about other random stores (not Starbucks) in the area that sell Swell bottles because they didn’t know what I was talking about… they were finally kind enough to go check their shipment boxes. Again, I wasn’t hopeful. BUT THEN.
The barista walks out with ONE of the peach bottles and ONE of the green palm leaves. The EXACT ones Amber and I wanted.
“Oh, are these it? I don’t even know if I can sell these yet. Let me see if they ring up. Oh! They do! Oh, these are kinda expensive. Are you sure?! Wow, they’re so…um… girly.” – the barista.
“YESSSSSSSS!!!!! RING THEM UP IMMEDIATEY!!!!!!” – me.
*every person in said Starbucks looks at me in disgust, confusion, and is shaking their heads*
Needless to say, I purchased, called Amber immediately… and pretty much have felt like I won the lottery all week. I’ve seen on Instagram that all the girls in The South (where Lilly is a HUGE deal) are all on the hunt because they sold out so quickly.
Moral of this long and exaggerated story about some overpriced girly water bottles:
I often get down about where we live. I often feel judged for all of my pink and carrying a Louis Vuitton as I do errands around town. I also struggle with finding friends that have similar interests to me and don’t think I’m crazy for doing things like hunting down water bottles or even blogging in general. And even though those things don’t matter in the big picture of it all, it can make me feel isolated at times!
Some may just think silly stories like this are all just fun coincidences, but I don’t think of it that way. I truly think that God gives us little glimmers of hope in sometimes the most fun and random of ways! And this story of finding a friend, realizing you’re so similar, and seeing a fun and random benefit to where God has you in this season of life…. now that’s what I call blessings from our Lord! Sometimes it’s truly the little things. And I’m so grateful for them!
Fresh & Unexpected Camellias
Next up, on my current favorites list: my new found camellia bush behind our apartment building! If you follow along on Snapchat (amybethcampbell), you saw that I just discovered this huge blooming camellia bush right by where you take out the trash. It’s the opposite of a glamorous space (it’s literally just an alley of a 100+ year old apartment building in a city), but there it was! Ummm, I’ve lived in this apartment for over 4 years now. 4 years! HOW DID I MISS THIS?! Camellias are my favorite! I’m convinced my landlord must have planted it around the time we got married – the same time when I stopped taking out the trash myself 😉
Needless to say, I went camellia crazy. Our apartment is now the Oprah of camellias. Every nook gets a camellia! And I love it. I always love how bright and cheery fresh flowers in the home make me feel… but getting them for free?! It’s amazing for this girl who lives in an apartment with no outdoor space!
Books That Touch Your Soul & La Croix Season
I shared a few of my favorite devotionals in this post, and also mentioned one my favorite current reads. Well I finished Grace Not Perfection, so I picked up Uninvited for my next bedtime read. Oh my goodness, y’all. You know those books that just speak to your soul and you’re only 10 pages in? This is absolutely one of those! I can’t recommend it enough and I think I may need to do a full separate blog post on it once I’m done with it! But I wanted to share it here now for y’all if you’re in need of a good read! Perhaps we can do a little online book club?!
And okay, so random but…I love La Croix. All-natural bubbly water that tastes fruity but has no calories or any kind of sweetener whatsoever? Um, yes please! I don’t like the taste of artificial sweeteners in drinks (with Diet Coke being my one exception – it’s in a league of it’s own in my opinion!) but I absolutley love lemonade and other citrus/fruity drinks. But sadly, I have to keep that love in check due to all the sugar. So La Croix is the perfect way for me to get my fix when I need something refreshing and fruity! I’ll sip on La Croix year round, but not as much during the winter as I’m always cold and usually have to rely on sipping on hot tea all day to keep my goosebumps manageable. But the past few days have been sunny and kinda sorta warm so I’ve been loving sipping my La Croix and pretending it’s a cocktail and I’m on a tropical vacation! Wednesday’s post definitely encouraged this. Haha!
Well there you have it. I suppose my list of current favorites is literally only 4 things in total! Oops! I can be great at gabbing! But hopefully, these Friday Favorites feel like we’re catching up over coffee or a cocktail on a Friday while sharing about our weeks!
Any fun plans this holiday weekend?! Sam is dying to get to Tahoe to see all the snow. Yes, Tahoe is gorgeous. Like, people travel from all over the world to see it’s beauty. But I’m a brat and hate the cold, especially when I’m craving spring so badly. And I’d be lying if I wasn’t admitting to y’all that he’s dragging me there. Total brat.
We’re going to be watching the weather as the storms roll in to see if we can make it up safely tomorrow morning, but if it’s clear… we’ll be there! I’ve been promised Chick Fil A breakfast for the early morning drive up, and margaritas at Sunnyside (our favorite restaurant on the water) for a belated Valentine’s Day date so I think this brat can certainly manage. 😉 How blessed am I to have a husband that literally caters to my every need, even when we don’t always see eye to eye on everything!
Wishing y’all a happy weekend! Thanks for reading here today and every day!
