Happy October! I say this every year, but the autumn season seems to always fly by in a flash. It’s as if I sip my Pumpkin Spice Latte and blink and it’s the Christmas season! But I think that’s why I love fall so much…. it’s the season preparing us for Christmas! Either way, it always tends to go by so darn quick, so today I wanted to share my fall to-do/bucket list of things I want to be intentional about doing before the busyness of the holidays kicks in!
Visit wine country to see the leaves change
As long as we live within an hour or so from Napa & Sonoma, you can find my husband and I making fairly frequent trips. It really is as gorgeous as all the photos and is a wonderful day trip on the weekends, especially in the fall. There’s nothing like seeing the vines turn colors! I’m hoping we make at least one or two trips up there from now until December. I’m also hoping to start rounding up a tour guide of some of our favorite spots here on the blog!
Switch up my floral routine
Having fresh flowers in our home has always been important to me! And nearly any time of the year, you can expect that the flowers I choose are hydrangeas and/or pink or white roses. But for fall, I’ve been craving switching up my usual blooms for some fun orange ones! I absolutely love orange roses like the ones above this time of year and think they’re a fun and festive way to bring fall into the home without going all out with fall foliage and leaves (which I also love, but frankly just don’t have the space for!).
Photograph our home
Ever since I’ve launched this blog of mine, I’ve alluded to revealing more and more of our home decor. But the reality is… it just hasn’t been fully “ready to photograph” in my mind yet! Furnishing our little apartment to our liking has been a slow and steady process. Playing around with different looks has been really fun but also challenging! For example, right after we got married, everything we owned was blue and white because those were the colors of our wedding and also what we registered for! Which, hello, was amazing because I clearly loooove blue and white! But once everything was moved in and in its place… it felt…. well, all blue and white. Haha! Reality is…. I love prints and color far too much to neglect them in our home! So with that gorgeous classic blue and white foundation that I still absolutely love, I’ve taken my time ‘layering in’ more of my personal style on top of it! And y’all…. I am loving it! It’s fun to look back and see how much we’ve done (I should have taken more before pictures but sorry… #perfectionistproblems) and feel like it’s such a happy blend of styles. So, my goal is to get it photographed (more than one corner at a time) here soon for y’all! Hint: the photo above has something that we added recently and we LOVE it! ?
Make these cookies!
I’m a sucker for nearly anything pumpkin flavored, but sometimes I start to burn out mid Pumpkin Spice Season. I could without a shadow of a doubt eat my momma’s pumpkin bread year round, but the pumpkin spice flavored cereals, cupcakes, cookies, candies, etc.? Sometimes it gets to be too much! The photo above makes my mouth water every single time I look at it and seems like a fun and festive way to continue to bake this season with a break from the pumpkin spice. Also, peanut butter chips AND Reese’s Pieces? YES.
Switch over to fall makeup colors
If you’ve been following along with me for a while, you know my obsession with beauty products is real. So when the seasons change, you can best believe my makeup routine does as well! Does this mean I go from my signature pinks and neutrals and all of a sudden rock a dark smokey eye and vampy lips from now until spring? Not at all! But I do have some tricks up my sleeve on how to make makeup suit the cooler temps and neutral wardrobe that comes in fall. Stay tuned for some of those tips and products on here soon! ?
Tour the neighborhood
I am the queen of creeping around in neighborhoods. I absolutely get this from my mom! If there is a neighborhood with pretty homes and equally as pretty home decor, we’re both making our husbands drive as slowly as possible so we can scope out every detail we can. Call us creeps or just call us resourceful in finding a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Either way, I love a good weekend drive (or walk!) of a pretty neighborhood, seeing how each home owner decorates for fall and Halloween. I highly suggest this idea for a breath of fresh air and inspiration!
Swap out wardrobes
I’m proud to say that I can already cross this one off the list! In our little apartment, the closet space is limited (and looks absolutely nothing like the photo above but a girl can dream, right?!). So, my reality is that I must have only the clothes of the season in my closet at a time and the rest get carefully folded and tucked away in storage bins under our bed. It may be a bit of an undertaking when it’s finally time to do the ‘swap out’, but it’s actually quite a helpful way to clean out whatever you didn’t wear enough to keep that season or items that you realize don’t need to be taking up space in your closet for the season ahead! Sam and I did THE swap yesterday and have an entire Ikea bag’s worth of clothes that are ready to be donated! It feels so good to have everything clean, organized, and ready for the new season ahead!
Do y’all have any specific plans, goals, and to-do’s this fall? Any traditions that y’all do yearly that make you feel a bit more festive? I’d love to know! Comment and share!
