I’ve been a beauty product junkie ever since I owned my first Bonne Bell Lip Smacker (Dr. Pepper flavor, of course). I attribute my love for cosmetics from many a trips to Longs Drugs (still miss it) with my older sister, reading countless issues of Seventeen, then moving onto InStyle and Allure, and ultimately just a love for makeup in general. Now let me clarify – even though I do love makeup, you won’t find me doing crazy YouTube tutorials on it anytime soon. I leave the Kimmy K contouring stuff to the pros. But I do enjoy consistently trying new products! In addition, you can still find me using a moment of down time to browse the makeup aisle of a drugstore, dive into a beauty magazine or head to the Nordstrom beauty counters and get lost in all they have to offer.
So today I wanted to share my absolute beauty staples – the products I use nearly every day! This little routine I have takes about 5 minutes and is extremely natural looking. It’s just enough to make me feel ‘put together’, hide any blemishes or dark circles, and highlight features I like about myself. I’ll take you through the products and you can click on the links below to find them for yourselves, if you so desire!
Garner Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller – If you peeked through my ‘Fun Facts’ page, you saw that this product made the cut for my top 3 beauty product picks. It’s the ultimate, in my book. The consistency is extremely lightweight, yet provides amazing coverage. I start by rolling it on my tired morning eyes and dark circles, but then often use it as a lightweight concealer on any blemishes or spots on my face that could use some additional love. I use the light/medium color and because the formula is so blendable, it comes across natural on my face year round. If there is one product off this list you should pick up, it’s this. I promise you’ll be hooked.
Maybelline Mascara – To be honest, I switch my mascaras often. However, they’re all drugstore brands these days. I used to pay an embarrassing amount of money for my mascara, but I’ve since realized that even though there are some amazing department store options, I’d rather save my money and splurge elsewhere. Ultimately, the secret to success in mascara is the wand. I like my lashes to consistently look big and dramatic, even when I’m going “natural”, so I recommend something with a lot of volume. This ‘falsies’ is doing the trick right now, but I’ll likely share another option in the future.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Duo Brow Powder – You guys. Eyebrows. I love them. I firmly believe that a polished brow is critical to looking put together. But oh my, eyebrows can go ‘wrong’ real quick. That’s why I like to fill them in with a brush and powder. Gel or pencil formulas come across as too thick and dramatic for me. The MAC angled brow brush is perfect to be precise with your powder. I only fill in where there are gaps and I only do little light strokes. Less is always more here. Overdone brows look scary to me, but a little powder to show them off? Gorgeous!
MAC blush – I love how blush instantly brightens the face. With my pale skin, I like to go for a bright shade. I love how MAC blush stays on my face without getting oily and weird. Because their makeup is made to last through stages, sets, fashion shows, etc. I think it does the trick of staying on through the day as I run around and watch babies. So glamorous, I know. Little tip when picking out blush: don’t let the bright hues scare you! You’d be amazed at how certain colors look on your skin tone. I highly recommend heading to the beauty counter fresh-faced and letting them try multiple shades on you. And don’t panic when something looks bright pink or orange in the tin. It very well could end up looking fabulous on you!
I hope these little makeup secrets of mine are helpful! If there’s anything in particular in terms of beauty products that you’d like to see me blog about, let me know with a comment! I’d love to share what I know in helpful ways here!
Have a beautiful weekend!
