As the weekend before Valentine’s Day approaches, I’m guessing your plans for celebrating the holiday are starting to unfold a bit! Whether it’s a night out or in with your girlfriends, a Galentines brunch, a saucy date out on the town with your man, or even a relaxed but romantic night in… why not bump up that beauty routine to make which ever way you’re celebrating feel a bit more sassy and fun!
I’m actually fairly low-key when it comes to Valentine’s Day plans as a whole, but I’m surely no stranger to adding a little something extra in my beauty routine to change things up a bit! So really, whatever you find yourself doing… I think any of these little beauty tricks will make you feel extra beautiful for Valentine’s Day or any other upcoming occasion!
Nails are ‘my thing’. I can’t stand when they’re not done and you surely won’t find me at any type of celebration without them done! I blame this on having really poor nails that peel up and look awful au natural, but I also really just love the way having them done always make me feel put together no matter what! Maybe you’re not as
ridiculous obsessed as I am over nails, or maybe you’re a ‘neutrals only’ kinda gal. Either way, you have to admit… it’s kinda fun to have them painted a festive color for a festive occasion! This OPI shade is my favorite red, this Essie is my go-to for a good pale pink that looks good on every skin tone, and this bright pink Essie is a keeper for anyone looking for a bright yet not too obnoxious pink (it’s fabulous for toes, too!). You can find me wearing these shades year round for no special occasion whatsoever, but I definitely think they work well for Valentine’s!
Blush That Pops
I love me a good bright pop of blush! And this is coming from a girl who gets ‘flushed’ quite easily with her fair skin and pink undertones! But there’s just something about having a bright blush color on the apples of your cheeks that really makes you look bright and glowing! I know so many brighter blush shades look scary in the pan, but really be brave and try them out! I think MAC has an excellent selection of blushes that you can go try on in person and return if you’re really not feeling it later. But if you’re looking for an inexpensive option you can pick up at the drugstore, I absolutely love Milani’s baked blushes. They’re so reasonably priced and the pigment is bright without being too much. Every beauty blogger I know raves about the shade ‘Luminoso’ and swears it looks good on everyone! I haven’t tried it myself (simply because it’s always sold out whenever I go to the drugstore!) but I absolutely love the color ‘Delizioso Pink’ (featured in the photos) because it’s the perfect bright pink without being too ‘Barbie’. As if that’s a bad thing though, I mean really!
A Little ‘Up Do’
I wouldn’t say I’m super adventurous with my hair. It’s fairly straight the day I wash and blow dry, I curl it the next day, and let it stay wavy until I wash it again. Sometimes I pull it half up. I also tease it… a lot. #higherthehairclosertothegoodLord
However, I swear that when I make subtle changes to it (like pull it half up but leave a few more tendrils loose than usual, or maybe if I part it a bit differently, or pull it to one side…. nothing dramatic but just subtle changes) people always notice and are so complimentary! This is especially the case with my husband Sam. He may not quite know what’s different, and that’s totally okay! But he sees a slight change and he instantly gets the emoji heart eyes. He’s a sweet man, that Sam! So I highly encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, have fun with it, and do a little something different! It’s amazing what a few bobbi pins and some hairspray can to a woman.
I. Love. Big. Lashes. I’m obsessed with fluttery eyes that pop and look like a perfect baby doll! Sorry, is that weird?! I don’t even care because I just love them so much. On a daily basis, I wear about 20 coats of mascara. Okay, dramatic. But it’s a lot. And though the idea of applying false lashes used to only seemed suitable to me as done by a professional for something like a wedding…. I’m here to now say you can totally rock DIY falsies any darn time you want! You just need to practice. Watch a YouTube tutorial! Here’s the best one out there – Courtney is a Dallas gal that can be trusted. And don’t even be tricked into thinking you need expensive lashes that can be used again. Just buy the drugstore cheapies so you don’t feel bad if you get too much glue on them or just want to throw them in the trash after you take them off at the end of the night! These #120 lashes from Ardell (and this glue) are my secret weapons. They look natural and gorgeous on every single girlfriend I’ve ever applied them on! Seriously, go get yourself a pair, go watch that tutorial, and get to applying! If you’re still scared let this encourage you: I can’t wear contact lenses yet because I freak out at the eye doctor and they have to hold me down like I’m a wild animal that should be sedated just to even get close to touching my eyes. I’ve yet to even begin to figure out that whole process and I need to and yet…. I can apply falsies with ease. If I can do it, you absolutely can, too!
A Bright Lip
When all else fails, put on some lipstick! It’s incredible that a bare face can be instantly changed with a bright, bold lip! I have a lipstick addiction, so I won’t list all of my favorites here. We don’t have all day, now do we! I will say, that MAC’s Ruby Woo is a classic red that looks good on absolutely everyone. If you’ve always looked for the perfect red, that’s your winner! And if you’re wanting a hot pink pop, try Milani’s Matte Orchid. Hello! Obsessed.
Is it just me or are you now ready to go play in your bathroom and beautify after all that?! Yay for makeup and beauty products! It’s the perfect way to get in the spirit of Valentine’s Day! And of course, you don’t need any of it, really. If your man is at all like my husband, he probably says ‘you look beautiful’ when you first wake up and have remnants of zit cream on your chin. Bless. But gosh, it’s just so fun to play beauty shop sometimes! So have fun with it and challenge yourself to try new things when it comes to beauty!
Now go let that inner girly girl out and get to primpin’, ladies! 😉
