It’s a rainy day here in the SF Bay Area and I’ve been busy wrapping gifts and trying to get everything set before this weekend! To be honest, I’m normally wrapping gifts on the 24th and often have to run out in the chaos for one or two more gifts…
You would think after years of working in retail environments and now working with retail in an online capacity with this blog that I’d be a little bit more ‘on the ball’ with wrapping and shopping… but it just seems like no matter how hard I try, there always seems to be one more gift to be purchased and one more gift to be wrapped!
For y’all that are finding yourself in that current predicament today and tomorrow, I’ve decided to round-up 10 last-minute gift ideas that can be completed without having to go to the mall!
1. Mani/Pedi gift certificate to her favorite nail salon
I absolutely love to get my nails done! It doesn’t matter if I go monthly or every few months… every single time is always such a treat! A mani/pedi is the perfect way for any lady in your life to feel pampered and it’s a gift she’ll likely very much appreciate using it to unwind after a busy Christmas season!
2. Blowout gift certificate
If she prefers doing her own nails but loves the way her hair looks leaving salon, a blowout gift card is the perfect solution! This option would be so perfect for a gal to save to use before a special party or hot date, a new mama who doesn’t have time to do her hair, a lady whose hair is difficult to style, an elderly woman who is having a more difficult time using a heavy blow dryer, or any woman who just loves the feeling of a good wash and fresh silky smooth strands! If there isn’t a Drybar or something similar close to her, see if you can contact her usual hairstylist to see if he/she can work something out in terms of a gifted wash & blow dry!
3. A bottle of wine wrapped in a cute bag*
You can pick up a bottle of wine (or two or 3) on your way to someone’s house, plop it in a fun and fancy bag (I love options from Target, World Market, Home Goods, etc.) and be good to go! White, red, rosé, bubbly…. hey, even Martinelli’s is a fun gift to receive when it’s in a pretty reusable bag!
A new mascara, a fancy eyeshadow, or a new shade of lipstick is never a gift to shy away from! Gifting makeup is actually easier that y’all may think! Sneakily go into her makeup bag or bathroom drawers (or her children or spouse do it!) and snap a picture of labels and shades on the bottom of the products! If it’s a product she already owns or constantly uses, you already know she likes it! Makeup is pricey and sometimes tough to purchase for oneself during the holidays when so many other purchases are being made, so why not help her replenish her stash!
Same rules apply from above! If she already uses and loves it, she’ll likely be happy with more!
6. Coffee mug or tumbler filled with whole beans and/or a gift card!*
If he or she is a Starbucks lover, they’ll love one of their cute mugs or tumblers! Add in some beans and/or a gift card to make it even more special! If they are more of a local coffee shop kinda
snob person (like my husband 😉) you can do the same thing as they usually have a mug with their branding on it as well! And you could also do this with tea, of course!
7. Framed photo*
Have a great snap of you and the recipient? Perhaps you have a great photo that your wedding photographer captured of the recipient and his/her loved ones? Or maybe it’s just an amazing Instagram that’s been captured and you’d love to get it printed and framed for someone special! You can’t go wrong with a nice picture frame (you can find so many good ones at Home Goods!) with a special memory inside. You can easily upload and order a print online and pick it up at your corner drugstore within an hour! With so much of our photos all shared digitally these days, this option is always sweet and sentimental! If you’re thinking about how this works for a male… they could likely use a little help in terms of decor on their desks at work!
Go support your local bookstore! Yes, Amazon is often cheaper and I’m guilty of going through them the most, especially in terms of books. But a last-minute sitch lends you an opportunity to go support local, which I absolutely think is important, too! Pick up a NY Times best seller, a good coffee table read, a lighthearted ‘chick lit’ option, a historical novel for your history buff… options are endless!
9. A magazine or newspaper subscription*
If those you love have a favorite interest magazine or can’t live without the daily crossword puzzle in their favorite paper… go online and order them a subscription! If they’re already a subscriber…set it up so that it will just renew after what they have already paid for!
10. E-Gift Card*
Okay, so it’s not totally ideal to send an email with an E-gift card in it on the night of Christmas eve…it does kinda have a last-minute vibe to it. But you know what?! It’s still thoughtful and it’s still a gift! And so many retailers have come up with some really cute options in terms of how cards now get electronically delivered, you’re conserving paper, and at the end of the day… everyone loves a good gift card! For the ladies, Anthropolgie, J.Crew, Draper James, and Bauble Bar all have cute online options!
*also works for gifting men, too!
So there you have it! A few obtainable gift ideas that don’t require you having to brave too many crowds… especially in terms of a big mall!
Now, I’m off to finish up my wrapping before we head out to celebrate my Seester’s (early) birthday tonight! This season is FULL of celebrations in my family! ☺️🎁
Good luck last-minute-ing!
